7 October 2015:  WWII sites in the city

10/10/2015

On our last city tour we focused on places that were significant in WWII.
First, we visited the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Please visit this link for more information: Dachau
Then, we visited the university's main building where the students and siblings Sophie and Hans Scholl secretly distributed anti-Nazi flyers between 1942 and 1943. They belonged to the non-violent resistance movement "The White Rose".  The members of this group were convicted of high treason and executed on 22 November 1943.
Lastly, we visited the Feldherrnhalle, a loggia built in the 19th century in honor of military successes. It served in 1923 as the site of Hitler's failed attempt to take over the Bavarian State (Beer Hall Putsch).

The BMW plant has more visitors than Neuschwanstein:  over 3 Million per year.  The plant employs a workforce of around 9,000 people from more than 50 countries around the world, including around 700 apprentices. As a part of the BMW Group’s worldwide production network, the BMW Group Munich Plant builds more than 900 cars and up to 1,400 engines a day.  Here are some pictures of the sales display area. We were not allowed to take photos inside the plant. Please check out the BMW website for more information:  Click here.
